Men’s 7s Head Coach

Position Overview

The Chicago Lions are accepting applications for the role of the next men's 7s head coach. The ideal candidate is highly organized, an exceptional communicator, and experienced in successfully coaching 7s at the elite university or elite club level. The head coach will work very closely with the Lions director of rugby, strength & conditioning coach, and assistant coaches to plan and execute training and tournament competition from mid May through mid August.

About the Chicago Lions

The Chicago Lions are a perennial contender in the US 7s landscape, with 2 national titles from 3 national final appearances since 2007. Dozens of players have graduated from this program to play professional rugby domestically or abroad, represent their countries in international 7s competition on the world series, and compete in the Olympic Games.

Qualifications

  • Local to Chicago from mid May through mid August (at a minimum). 

  • Proven experience successfully coaching elite university or elite club rugby

  • Exceptional organization and communication skills

  • In-depth knowledge of all facets of the 7s game

  • Ability to organize and present information and plans to playing group regularly

  • Knowledge and skills required to plan a season and training sessions

  • Effective problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to be at all training sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9p) and all tournaments (weekends in season)

  • World Rugby L2 Coaching certification (or registration to get your L2 in the coming months)

  • Ability and experience coaching XVs backs is a plus, but not required

Position Compensation & Benefits

  • *Compensation will be paid monthly in season and all travel expenses for team activities are either covered or reimbursed by the club.

  • *Performance bonuses will be paid for post-season championships.
