George Plackmann
Meet George!
Men’s D2 Head Coach & Men’s D1 Assistant Coach
George is currently an Assistant Coach with the Lions Men’s XVs D1 side and the D2 Head
Coach. He began rugby in earnest at UIC and came to the Lions shortly after graduation. He started his first season in 1997 at wing on the Lions C side and worked his way up over the years to playing fullback on the A side. He also had the honor of playing in the CARFU and Midwest select programs before finishing up his competitive rugby with the Lions in 2005.
George stayed involved with the Lions and was elected the VP-Playing and the Super League Manager for several seasons before deciding to help a fellow UIC alum and coach the Chicago Riot’s 7s side and XVs backs for a couple seasons. In the winter of 2016, the Lions came calling to have him take over as interim head coach before the 2017 playoffs due to the head coach having to suddenly move out of state for work. Once the Lions secured a full time head coach the next year, George took the reins of the newly reformed Lions D3 side and has been heading the second side of the club ever since.
George is also one of the charter board members of the Chicago Lions Charitable Association that was established in 2011, where he is the board secretary.
